On June 27th, the Calgary Stampede rode onto Wall Street to perform in front of the New York Stock Exchange. The parade included a world champion Native hoop dancer, a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and two dozen riders on horseback, including members of the Stampede Showriders. It was, according to Alberta Premier Ralph Klein, who was on hand to ring the closing bell, the first time horses had been on the famed street since 1905. The purpose of the event was to promote the Stampede, to tout the potential of the oil sands, and to welcome investment opportunities that exist in Alberta.
